President-elect Donald J. Trump has appointed Bo Hines, a former college football player and Republican congressional candidate, to lead the Presidential Council of Advisers for Digital Assets.
Stacking the administration with a focus on digital assets is a clear direction for 2025.
The group, known simply as the “Crypto Council,” is a newly minted body tasked to foster innovation in the digital assets sector and ensure industry leaders have the resources and pathways to succeed in developing the crypto-economy in the U.S.
Hines lost his 2022 bid for North Carolina’s 13th District and ran unsuccessfully for the state’s 6th District in 2024, receiving notable donations from pro-crypto PACs along the way.
Trump confirmed the appointment on December 22 via Truth Social, noting that Hines will work alongside David Sacks, the new AI and crypto czar, to shape the administration’s pro-crypto policies. Hines’ role comes as part of Trump’s broader effort to position the U.S. as a global leader in digital assets and technology.
