Uganda’s blockchain landscape is rapidly evolving, capturing the interest of enthusiasts, developers, founders, students, researchers, regulators, government representatives, and professionals across diverse sectors.

The momentum was evident at the 4th edition of the Blockchain Dev-Fest 2025, held in Kampala from June 27th to 28th under the theme “Matching Potential with Opportunity.” The two-day conference attracted sponsorship from key players in the blockchain ecosystem, including Stellar, Base, One Dev, Safari DAO, Lisk, Muda, Unlock, Pizza DAO, InfynSec, Web3 Bridge, and Celo.
The first day of Dev-Fest featured hackathon participants pitching innovative projects to a panel of judges. The second day was packed with engaging panel discussions and keynote sessions exploring topics such as tokenization, stablecoins, Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs), blockchain architecture and its future, legal considerations, artificial intelligence (AI), bridging the talent gap, work-life balance, and systems security.
Certificates of recognition were awarded to hackathon participants, as well as to businesses and individuals who have played pivotal roles in advancing blockchain technology over the past year.
On June 29th, blockchain enthusiasts gathered in Kampala for a Polkadot meet-up, attracting a diverse mix of newcomers, curious students, seasoned developers, researchers, and professionals from sectors like microfinance and real estate. The event showcased developer tools and resources within the Polkadot ecosystem, and featured a live demonstration of the Nova Wallet, a self-custodial solution designed for seamless interaction with the Polkadot network.
The momentum continued on June 30th with the Stellar East Africa meet-up in Kabale, southwestern Uganda. This gathering provided an opportunity for insightful discussions with blockchain developers, hands-on learning experiences, and valuable networking within the growing blockchain community.
Looking ahead, more blockchain awareness campaigns, technical workshops, and community events are on the horizon. Notable upcoming events in July 2025 include a Web3 developer workshop hosted by Decentracode and celebrations marking Binance’s 8th anniversary in Kampala.
With such vibrant energy and growing participation, it’s clear that Uganda’s blockchain journey is only beginning. While the country lacks a comprehensive legal framework for digital assets, there is significant potential for progress through collaborative efforts within the East African Community to harmonize regulatory standards and foster a supportive environment for blockchain innovation.
